What is Exactech Recall Lawsuit?

Exactech recalled thousands of knee, ankle, and hip implants. Most of the patients who suffered the downsides of a defective product received a letter from their doctors about the recall. The victims can file a claim as they have undergone or will soon need additional surgeries.

Medical device company Exactech recently declared a major recall of its knee, ankle, and hip replacement implant systems that were made after 2004. The recall came after the discovery that the insert component of the defective product had been made of polyethene. The packaging defect caused several Exactech knee implants to fail before time. The polyethylene inserts degrade before use and cause the patient acute pain in the operated section. The defective parts in the recalled devices may oxidize due to packaging error that affects the structural integrity of the device and leads to device failure. The replacement failure compels the patients to undergo further corrective surgery, which is both unnecessary and expensive.

The traumatic ordeal can lead to forever damage to the physical and mental health of the patients. The purpose behind installing joint replacement devices is to benefit the health and life of patients. When the devices fail due to the manufacturer’s fault and negligence, it can inflict physical and mental pain on patients who have already been in medical trouble. The victims can file an Exactech lawsuit to seek compensation for the losses they have suffered after a defective implant due to the manufacturer’s fault or negligence.

What to Do After Recalled Exactech Implants?

Excatech sent the doctors a letter on the recall. The letter has instructed doctors to stop using the implants immediately in knee and ankle replacement surgeries. Doctors and hospitals received instructions to return the recalled devices in their current stock for replacement.

The patients who underwent the surgery have been instructed to consult their doctors. Doctors must maintain an index of patients with Exactech implants and closely monitor them for signs and symptoms of potential insert failure.

In case one with an Exactech knee or ankle replacement implant experiences the signs and symptoms due to the defective insert. The symptoms include pain and inflammation, weakness in joints, incapability of bearing one’s weight, and more. Doctors conduct an X-ray to evaluate the current status of the Exactech implant.
