The amount of money you can recover in a defective stomach medication case in Florida is a huge range, depending on the drug in question and how severely injured you were. Individual payments may range from $25,000 to $500,000 in more extreme situations.

The stomach drugs have become the subject of major legal complications throughout the United States, particularly due to concerns about some acid reflux and heartburn medications containing harmful ingredients. The largest case discussion is about Zantac, a heartburn and acid reflux drug that was previously used by many before it was pulled from the market due to contamination allegations.

Several individuals who have previously used Zantac are now asking questions about their rights, the amount of compensation they may be eligible for, and when the Zantac lawsuit will be settled. Knowing how much your claim can be worth is crucial if you or someone you care for has experienced health issues after taking this medicine.

Why Are Zantac Lawsuits Being Filed?

Zantac lawsuits started when studies and investigations discovered that the drug may contain NDMA, a chemical that is known to be a probable human carcinogen. There were concerns about the potential for chronic exposure to NDMA to raise the risk of some forms of cancer, such as:

  • Bladder cancer
  • Stomach cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Colorectal cancer

As a result, thousands of lawsuits have been filed against manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies. Plaintiffs allege that they were not informed of the possible side effects of the drug.

As more claims have been filed, the Zantac lawsuit in Florida has become one of the most closely-watched pharmaceutical lawsuits in the country.

How much Compensation Can You Get?

For many of you who may not be aware of this already, GSK has reached private settlement agreements in about 80,000 Zantac lawsuits (the bulk of cases awaiting trial in Delaware Superior Court), in the estimated sum of $2.2 billion, which was negotiated with 10 law firms representing some plaintiffs’ firms and will likely take effect by mid-2026.

The amount of compensation in defective medication cases can certainly vary depending on the facts of the case. Several factors can affect the settlement value a plaintiff can receive.

  • Medical Expenses

A victim might be seeking compensation for medical expenses incurred for diagnosis, treatment, surgeries, chemotherapy, medicines, and follow-up care. Those who will be treated for a long time may attempt to settle for more since future medical expenses can be significant.

  • Lost Income

If your employment is made impossible by cancer or some other serious condition, you are entitled to receive a portion of your lost wages and earning potential. It includes any current and future monetary losses.

  • Pain and Suffering

Non-economic damages are often a major component of pharmaceutical injury claims. The victim may receive compensation for the following:

  • Physical pain
  • Emotional distress
  • Anxiety
  • Lower standard of living
  • Mental suffering

If the injury or illness is so severe that the victim is permanently disabled or has a terminal illness, then damages for pain and suffering can be substantial.

  • Wrongful Death Damages

A wrongful death lawsuit could be filed on behalf of a family whose loved one was already deceased as a result of a defectively manufactured drug complication. The claims brought could potentially include compensation for loss of consortium, medical bills and funeral expenses, and support.

Do Zantac Lawsuits Qualify for a Class Action?

Although most believe that all pharmaceutical lawsuits are traditional class actions, most Zantac claims are filed through multidistrict litigation (MDL). It is a way to streamline and consolidate similar cases without treating any plaintiff’s injuries any differently.

It does not imply that compensation levels are the same for all. Some of the following could be dependent settlement values:

  • Time of medication use
  • Diagnosis of cancer (type)
  • Severity of illness
  • Medical expenses
  • The overall health and age of the fish.

Medications that are thought to have caused the illness. Medications are suspected of causing the illness. The payout amount for each case may differ significantly.

One of the most frequently asked questions by plaintiffs is: When will Zantac lawsuit be settled?

Unfortunately, there is no definite timeframe. Negotiating large pharmaceutical litigation cases can be complex, requiring expert testimony and scientific evidence, and may take several years to resolve, depending on the parties involved.

Even if broad settlements take longer to reach through court decisions or continuing talks, some will settle faster. The test case, or “bellwether,” trials, which are used to gauge what answers the jury might give, can also influence settlement talks. An individual needs to stay up to date on the latest news about the Zantac lawsuit Florida by consulting their attorney.

Pharma and its insurers typically have substantial legal resources to defend these claims. Without legal advice, it can be overwhelming to join a lawsuit.

An experienced Zantac lawsuit attorney from People For Law can help:

Lawsuit for Defective Stomach Medication Update till May 2026

April 21, 2026: Judge Rejects Recusal Motion Again

A Philadelphia judge has again refused to recuse himself from the Zantac litigation due to a conflict involving his wife’s law firm. Plaintiffs argued that since his wife’s law firm represents a defendant, there was at least the appearance of a conflict. The judge dismissed the claim, ruling that the financial connection was too attenuated and did not create an actual conflict. He also noted procedural problems, including that the firm’s client was not a party to the case in which the recusal motion was filed. He also refused a similar recusal request in 2026.

April 13, 2026: Thousands of Older Zantac Cases Dismissed in Delaware

A Delaware judge dismissed more than 80,000 older Zantac cancer lawsuits following the Delaware Supreme Court’s ruling that excluded the plaintiffs’ general causation experts. With no experts willing to state under oath that Zantac causes cancer, the lawsuits had no merit. Plaintiffs tried to argue that the causation ruling applied only to the bellwether trial cases, but the judge disagreed, ruling that it applied to the entire Zantac litigation. Thousands of cancer claims against the manufacturer in Delaware were subsequently dismissed.

March 5, 2026: Securities Fraud Case Against GSK Dismissed

A federal judge already dismissed a securities fraud class action suit against GlaxoSmithKline in November.  As a result, finding that the company concealed the formation of a potentially carcinogenic substance during Zantac’s years of use to drive up its stock price. Investors argued that the pension fund lacked sufficient facts to establish a securities fraud claim as of the date the securities fraud purportedly occurred. Under the statute of limitations, the investors had failed to file in a timely fashion because public court records and MDL proceedings already existed. Securities Fraud Class Action differs from other class actions in that, rather than seeking compensation for injuries caused by the drug, it seeks to recover investors’ lost money.

January 27, 2026: Connecticut Bellwether Trials Rescheduled to 2028

The Connecticut court presiding over the Zantac litigation postponed the bellwether trials until 2028. The first bellwether trial in Connecticut is scheduled for March 2028, to be followed by colorectal cancer claims, stomach cancer claims later that year, and prostate cancer claims in subsequent years. The judge is also entertaining motions to consolidate claims from various plaintiffs in certain bellwether trial cases. For the thousands of individuals who have suffered personal injuries and/or wrongful death, along with those currently dealing with the effects of cancer and treatment, this delay prolongs the wait for justice.
